Partnering with Your
Healthcare Professional

It's important to speak with your healthcare team if you have any questions or concerns. Since there is a lot happening, it's a good idea to bring a family member or friend with you to appointments. This way, you can have someone there to take notes.

Another suggestion would be to print out and bring the questions below. They may help you remember what to ask. Be sure to ask about any other topics that may be of concern to you.

BEING DIAGNOSED: STARTING A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR DOCTOR

  • What type of lung cancer do I have?
  • What stage is my cancer in, and has it spread to other parts of my body?
  • What are the results of my cancer's molecular profiling (e.g., EGFR, ROS, ALK mutations?)
  • What symptoms might I experience?
  • What types of tests will have to be done?
  • What resources do you recommend?
  • Are there support groups or organizations for me and my family?

Treatment Questions

  • What is the goal of my treatment?
  • What treatment options are available for me?
  • Which treatment do you recommend and why?
  • What are the risks and benefits of this treatment?
  • How will my treatment be administered?
  • What side effects might I experience?
  • Are there any tips for coping with side effects from treatment?
  • Where will I go for treatment?
  • Will I need to be hospitalized?
  • Are there any clinical trials that I should consider?
  • When can I start my treatment, and how long will it last?
  • Are the treatments covered by my insurance?
  • If insurance does not cover my treatments, what are my other options?
